Christmas
Yet to Come, is taken from Charles Dickens's A Christmas Carol. The
last ghost, the creepy, black cloaked one, with his dire glimpse
of Scrooge's future, is my favorite because he offers us hope.
"Before I draw nearer to that stone to which you point," said Scrooge, "answer
me one question. Are these the shadows of the things that Will be,
or are they shadows of things that May be, only?"
Still the Ghost pointed downward to the grave by which it stood.
"Men's courses will foreshadow certain ends, to which, if persevered
in, they must lead," said Scrooge. "But if the courses be
departed from, the ends will change. Say it is thus with what you show
me."
The Spirit was immovable as ever."
The Spirit may have been immovable, but Scrooge was not. His transformation
can be inspiration for us. How our lives turn out is very much our
choice. We don't always get to choose what happens to us, but we
are always in charge of deciding how to deal with it.
Merry Christmas, and God Bless Us, Every One.
