This beautiful quilt was designed as a teaching tool.
Each block covers a basic piecing or appliqué technique. We start simple, with the checkerboard block, which will help you check your seam allowance and practice cutting simple, accurate shapes.
The border will require about 3 yards of fabric. There will be enough left over to make the binding from this yardage also. If you choose a large scale, multi-colored fabric for the border you can use the colors and shades found there to select the fabrics for the rest of the blocks.
This is a good pattern to use up those smaller yardages, especially the white on white or cream on cream backgrounds. It’s my belief that it is impossible to have too many fabrics in a quilt, especially backgrounds. It just makes the quilt more interesting!
